Former US Open finalist Casper Ruud and two-time Grand Slam finalist Stefanos Tsitsipas were named to Team Europe's 2024 Laver Cup team on Wednesday, completing captain Bjorn Borg's roster for Berlin.
The Norwegian and Greek stars will join teammates Carlos Alcaraz, Alexander Zverev, Daniil Medvedev and Rafael Nadal for the competition, which will be held from Sept. 20-22 at the Uber Arena in the German capital.
Both Ruud and Tsitsipas are set for their fourth appearance for Team Europe, with Ruud undefeated at Laver Cup. The pair will be teammates for the third time after competing together in Boston (2021) and London (2022).
“Casper and Stefanos are experienced Laver Cup players who know what it takes to win points,” said Borg, who has assembled one of the strongest teams in Laver Cup history as Team Europe strives to reclaim the trophy after two barren years.
“They have been part of some intense battles and have raised the cup in the past. I am happy to have them on the team.”
Ruud reached a career-high of world No. 2 after his run to the 2022 US Open men's singles final. He has also finished runner-up twice at Roland Garros, in 2022 and 2023. A 12-time singles champion on the ATP Tour, he has won titles in Geneva and Barcelona this season.
“It is a privilege to be part of this outstanding team and return for another shot at the title in Berlin. We have unfinished business,” said Ruud.
Tsitsipas, a former world No. 3, reached the Roland Garros final in 2021 and the Australian Open title match in 2023. Three of his 11 tour-level singles crowns have come at the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters, where he was champion this year.
“I’m excited to be playing the Laver Cup again,” said the Greek. “It is an honor to be part of this team and to compete alongside so many great players.”
After winning the Laver Cup in each of the first four years of the competition, Team Europe was beaten in London and Vancouver as John McEnroe's Team World turned the tables in the past two years. This year's Team World squad includes Alex de Minaur, Taylor Fritz, Tommy Paul and Ben Shelton.
The 2024 Laver Cup will also be the final year that Borg and McEnroe serve as captains, with Yannick Noah and Andre Agassi set to replace them, respectively, for the 2025 Laver Cup in San Francisco.
