Buckle up: "Break Point" is on its way. The tennis documentary series that chronicled the 2022 season, from the team that produced the award-winning series "Drive to Survive," for Formula One racing, is set to premiere on Netflix on Jan. 13.
Netflix revealed the series' title and launch date on Wednesday, as well as a 30-second teaser which features players including US Open champion Iga Swiatek and runner-up Ons Jabeur, as well Felix Auger-Aliassime, Paula Badosa, Matteo Berrettini, Taylor Fritz, Nick Kyrgios, Maria Sakkari, Frances Tiafoe and Ajla Tomljanovic.
Two of the first five episodes will pull back the curtain on the 2022 Australian Open, just days before the 2023 event begins. The series will debut with home favorites Kyrgios and Thanasi Kokkinakis in the spotlight from Melbourne, followed by Berrettini and Tomljanovic in the second episode.
Fritz and Sakkari will take center stage from Indian Wells in the third installment, while the fourth and fifth episodes will chronicle Badosa and Jabeur (from Madrid), and Auger-Aliassime and Casper Ruud (from Roland Garros), respectively.
Executive producer James Gay-Rees told The Associated Press' Howard Fendrich in an interview that he hopes the final product will have a broad appeal to both die-hard and casual fans of the game, while also introducing the sport's rising stars to a wider audience.
“You obviously want to keep the core audience happy—the tennis enthusiasts—but if we’re doing our job correctly, then the show should appeal to people who’ve got no interest in tennis at all," he said.
Per Fendrich's reporting, the second batch of five episodes documenting the second half of the season will drop in June.
