Citing a leg injury that has sidelined her since her semifinal loss at Wimbledon earlier this summer, Maria Sharapova, slated to be the tournament's No. 3 seed, has withdrawn from the 2015 US Open. She will be replaced in the draw by Daria Kasatkina of Russia.
"Unfortunately, I will not be able to compete in this year's US Open," Sharapova said in a statement on her Facebook page. "I have done everything possible to be ready, but it was just not enough time. To all my amazing fans, I will be back in the Asian swing in a few weeks and look forward to finishing the year healthy and strong."
