Naomi Osaka debuted a bold new look before her night match in Arthur Ashe Stadium on Monday at the 2026 US Open.
The two-time US Open women’s singles champion (2018, 2020) made her show-stopping entrance draped in a distressed hoodie lined with newsprint headlines and photos from throughout her career as a public figure. It was paired with a cascading white tulle skirt to complete the striking look.
Underneath, Osaka revealed her on-court gear for the final major of 2026, a black-on-black set that she called her “tribute” to basketball legend Allen Iverson.
“For me he’s a trailblazer,” she said of the former NBA MVP often cited as one of the most culturally influential athletes of his era. “He’s also someone that I look up to a lot because he’s kind of, like, done a lot in fashion, whether it’s on purpose or not.
“He’s shifted the way NBA players dress, and I also think, like, the whole conversation about clothes in sports, and also just expressing yourself through style,” Osaka said.
The inspiration for the outfit came as a result of Nike’s basketball-themed approach to the 2026 US Open, with other top stars including Carlos Alcaraz and Aryna Sabalenka sporting looks patterned after the hardwood.
“I said, OK, you want basketball? I’ll give you basketball,” said Osaka, whose entrance outfits and on-court kits have been especially attention-grabbing this season.
“I want to do well and I want to show you guys some more outfits,” she said to the crowd inside Arthur Ashe Stadium. “So hopefully I can keep playing some more matches in front of you guys.”
