The 2025 US Open concluded on Sunday. Let’s take a look at the numbers that moved the needle in Flushing Meadows at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
1: On the strength of his title, Carlos Alcaraz returns to No.1 in the ATP rankings, ending Jannik Sinner's 65-week reign at the top.
2: American Amanda Anisimova reached her second Grand Slam singles final of 2025.
3: Alcaraz and Sinner became the first pair to contest three Grand Slam finals against each other in the same season in Open Era history.
4: Aryna Sabalenka claims her fourth major title to move into a tie with Naomi Osaka for third on the WTA’s active Grand Slam titles list.
5: American women have participated in each of the last five major finals, winning two and losing three.
6: Alcaraz claims his sixth major title and is the second youngest male player (22 years and 125 days) to reach six majors titles, older only than Bjorn Borg.

10: Number of sets lost in major semifinals by Novak Djokovic this year. The 24-time major champion made the semis at all four majors, but did not win a set in any of the four matches (he retired after the first set of his Australian Open semifinal with Alexander Zverev).
11: Years since a woman last successfully defended a US Open women’s singles title. Serena Williams was the last player to defend the women’s singles title in NY, in 2014.
12: Years since the last time the same man and woman had repeated as champions at a Grand Slam. Novak Djokovic and Victoria Azarenka were the last to do it, at the Australian Open in 2013.
13: Consecutive US Open wins by Sabalenka, who is now 35-6 lifetime at the US Open.
14: US Open men’s singles final between No. 1 and No. 2. No. 1 is 6-8 in those clashes after Sunday.
15: Installations of the Sinner vs Alcaraz rivalry, Alcaraz now leads the lifetime head-to-head 10-5.

18: Number of major singles titles won by American icon Chris Evert. We celebrated the 50th anniversary of her first US Open title this year in Flushing Meadows. Evert and Serena Williams are tied for the all-time lead in Open Era women’s singles titles at the Open with six.
19: Sabalenka’s streak of consecutive tiebreaks won. She won all three that she played at this year’s Open.
20: Net points won by Alcaraz in the final (20 of 27).
21: Sets won by Alcaraz. The Spaniard won 21 of 22 of his sets in New York.
22: Years since an American man has won the US Open singles or Grand Slam title. Andy Roddick, in 2003, was the last man to achieve the feat.
23: For the first time in 23 years, since 2002, there was not a member of the Big 3 – Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic – contesting a major final.
24: Age of Sinner, who became the youngest player to ever reach five consecutive Grand Slam finals this year at the Open. Only three other players have achieved the feat in Open Era history: Federer, Nadal and Djokovic.
25: By reaching the final without dropping a single set, Alcaraz became the fourth men’s singles player to do so in the last 25 years, along with Lleyton Hewitt (2005), Rafael Nadal (2010) and Roger Federer (2015).
27: Sinner’s hard court winning streak at the majors was snapped by Alcaraz in Sunday’s final.
29: Years since the same man and woman repeated as US Open singles champions. The last man and woman to do it were Pete Sampras and Steffi Graf in 1995 and 1996.
39-2: Sabalenka’s record at the hard court majors since the start of 2023. She has won four titles from the six hard court majors she has played, and lost in the finals of the other two.
42: Alcaraz doubled up Sinner in Sunday’s winner count, 42 to 21.
