And then there were four. The 2025 US Open women’s doubles final has solidified, with American Taylor Townsend and Czechia’s Katerina Siniakova poised to take on Canada’s Gabriela Dabrowski and New Zealand’s Erin Routliffe for a Grand Slam title. Meanwhile, the men’s draw carried on with quarterfinal matches, lagging a round behind the women, to create the semifinal slate.
Townsend/Siniakova will continue their electric US Open run in the doubles final, after putting up an impressive fight to beat Wimbledon champions Veronika Kudermetova and Belgian Elise Mertens in the semifinals.
The No. 1 seeds sailed through the first set, but were met with significant resistance in the second. With Kudermetova/Mertens leading, 6-5, Siniakova served to push them to the tiebreak. Ultimately, Townsend/Siniakova defeated the No. 4 seeds, 6-3, 7-6(3).
“We did better than we did at Wimbledon,” Townsend said in the on-court interview, referencing their fall in the Wimbledon semis. “And that’s the goal.”
Townsend/Siniakova will meet Canada’s Dabrowski and New Zealand’s Routliffe in the final. The No. 3 seeds bested their Italian opponents, No. 2 seeds Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini, in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3. Dabrowski/Routliffe, who recently nabbed a title in Cincinnati, will be seeking their second US Open doubles title after their 2023 victory in Flushing Meadows.
On the men’s side, three seeded teams booked their semifinal spots, along with an unseeded American duo who are continuing their Cinderella run.
Adding to one of the more surprising storylines in the doubles draw, Americans Robert Cash and JJ Tracy upset No. 15 seeds Sadio Doumbia and Fabien Reboul. While the Frenchmen were expected to win, the unseeded usurpers continued on their tear, having beaten the No. 10 seeds in Round 3 and the No. 7 seeds in Round 2. The former Ohio State tennis stars and 2024 NCAA doubles champions followed suit in the quarters with a commanding 6-1, 7-6(7) victory.
Speaking of underdogs, after pulling off a third-round upset against the No. 4 doubles seeds, India’s Yuki Bhambri and New Zealand’s Michael Venus kept up their momentum in the quarterfinals. The No. 14 seeds won a hard-fought battle against American Rajeev Ram and Croatia’s Nikola Mektic, the No. 11 seeds, 6-3, 6-7(6), 6-3.
No. 5 seeds Marcel Granollers, from Spain, and Horacio Zeballos, from Argentina, pushed their way through German Constantin Frantzen and Dutchman Robin Haase. While the unseeded duo managed to claim one set against the 2025 Roland Garros doubles champions, they couldn’t finish the job. Granollers/Zeballos won the match, 7-5, 3-6, 6-3.
Finally, it was a Great Britain vs. Czechia competition between No. 6 seeds Joe Salisbury and Neal Skupski and the unseeded Tomas Machac and Matej Vocel. While Machac/Vocel forced the first set to a tiebreak, they couldn’t keep their hot streak alive. Final match score: 7-6(6), 6-3.
