Iga Swiatek notched her first win at the 2025 US Open, defeating Emiliana Arango 6-1, 6-2, and walked off the court just in time to see the Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce engagement announcement on Instagram. The No. 2 seed is a Swiftie through and through—she streamed Swift's recent appearance on Kelce's "New Heights" podcast and went to the Eras tour just days after lifting the 2024 Roland Garros title.
Even though she had just stepped off the court, Swiatek was ready for it—in fact, the Pole was the one to text her friends to make sure they saw the news. Maybe it's a good omen ahead of the competition.
"She posted when I finished. Yeah, maybe that's not a coincidence. I don't know," she said in her post-win press conference.
The 2022 US Open champion said that her team showed her the post right away, and Swiatek said she's thrilled for the couple, who attended the men's final last year.
"I'm just happy for her, because she deserves the best," she said. "Travis seems like a great guy. She seems super happy, so I'm happy for her. I wish them all the best."
She said she's been a fan since 2014, but dropped off a bit when "Reputation" was released in 2017, then found her way back home during the pandemic.
"I just followed everything. You know, I was following her, but also some fan pages to see the updates," she said. "Then when the "Reputation" album came out, I've got to say I didn't really like it that much. I liked the previous albums better. So I had a little break. But then in 2019 and when "Folklore" and "Evermore" were released during COVID, I started listening to Taylor again. It's great. But I like "Reputation" now. Don't worry."
Swiatek watched the "New Heights" podcast stream live, and was hoping to catch some Easter eggs about Swift's 12th studio album, but enjoyed hearing about the artist's sourdough obsession and learning some fun facts about the Eras Tour...even though she already knew most of the information.
"I was waiting mostly to hear about the album, because besides the sourdough, when she was describing The Eras Tour and everything, I knew most of the stuff already, but it's nice that she explained a lot to people that were football fans and were listening to the podcast because the football," Swiatek said.
"I think she's just great that she can fit everywhere, and I hope people love it obviously... she just makes our world better."
