WHAT HAPPENED: Quarterfinal action continued in Arthur Ashe Stadium with the No. 1 seeds Jessica Pegula and Jack Draper facing off against Mirra Andreeva and Daniil Medvedev playing for a coveted spot in the semifinals of the 2025 US Open Mixed Doubles Championships presented by Vital Proteins. The No. 1 seeds were able to cruise past their opponents, 4-1, 4-1.
In the first set, both teams got off to a good start on their respective opening services games, but the top seeds wasted no time, extracting three break-point opportunities from their opponents and converting on the third try to lead 2-1 in the set.
The American/British kept playing aggressive, offensive tennis, earning four more break points before converting the fourth break point to clinch the opening set, 4-1, in a speedy 15 minutes.
Pegula and Draper continued their speedy and dominant style of play, taking another service game away from Andreeva and Medvedev, jumping to a 2-0 lead early in the second set.
Andreeva and Medvedev were able to fend off two match points on their service game to stay in the second set, but the top seeds were just too solid, breaking their opponents once more to seal the match in just 36 minutes.
WHAT'S NEXT: Winners will face the red-hot No. 3 seeds Iga Swiatek and Casper Ruud mixed doubles semifinals tomorrow night. They will attempt to be the first team to break the Polish/Norwegian duo’s serve.
