Top 5 powerhouse players Jessica Pegula and Jack Draper have teamed up for the reimagined 2025 US Open Mixed Doubles Championship—and with a combined singles ranking of 9 as of July 28, they’ll be the No. 1 seeds when the mixed doubles action begins on Tuesday morning.
Pegula is the more experienced doubles player of the pair, having shared the No. 1 doubles ranking with Coco Gauff in 2023 after playing four WTA 1000 finals and lifting the trophy at two of them. She was also the 2023 US Open mixed doubles finalist alongside Austin Krajicek, and she and Gauff were the women’s doubles finalists at Roland Garros in 2022. Additionally, Pegula's ability to quickly adapt to different partners, demonstrated while playing with both Frances Tiafoe and Taylor Fritz at the 2023 United Cup, is sure to be an advantage for the team.
This is Draper’s second time playing in a doubles draw at a major—his first appearance was in the men’s doubles at Wimbledon in 2019—but he has found some success of his own with doubles. He has a 6-4 doubles record, with his best result coming last year in Montreal when he made a quarterfinal run with Jannik Sinner. However, no one can deny his on-court prowess, having lifted his first Masters 1000-level title at Indian Wells in March, followed by his Top 5 debut on the heels of coming in as runner-up in Madrid.
The teammates are no strangers to the bright lights, loud crowds and the immense amount of pressure that comes with playing in Arthur Ashe Stadium; Pegula made the final in Queens last year, and Draper reached the semifinals before falling to eventual champion Sinner. The team will likely have the home crowd behind them, as the fans love to cheer for American talent, and the Brit has developed a strong fanbase of his own in the U.S.
Pegula has been known to be a triple-threat at the Slams, playing in the singles, doubles and mixed doubles draws, and often going deep in all three—like in 2023 when she reached the fourth round in singles, the quarterfinals in women’s doubles and the final in mixed doubles. While the scheduling isn’t always easy, and it cuts down on recovery time, Pegula said she loves to get reps in during tournaments, and doubles is a great way to do that.
“Mixed [doubles] to me is just a fun way to go out there and be able to compete,” she said at the 2023 US Open. “I enjoy it. I think it's fun. I'd much rather do that than anything else.”
The US Open mixed competition will take place during Fan Week, Aug. 19-20, with $1 million in prize money awarded to the winning team.
Tickets are required for the mixed doubles action in Arthur Ashe Stadium, while the US Open Fan Access Pass offers free access to the matches in Louis Armstrong Stadium. Spectacular awaits at the US Open Mixed Doubles Championship.
