The 2025 US Open Qualifying Tournament will help kick off US Open Fan Week on Monday, with free admission to the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center for the singles action.
Former Top 25 stars Zhang Shuai, Daniel Evans, Nikoloz Basilashvili and Cristian Garin are among the seeds for the play-in tournament, with the women's draw and men's draw both revealed Sunday along with the upcoming schedule of play.
Three qualifying wins will earn a main-draw place for 16 women and 16 men, with the first round played on Monday and Tuesday followed by the second round Wednesday and the high-stakes third round on Thursday.
In addition to a place in the 128-player main-draw fields, the qualifiers are also competing for significant prize money: Players who exit in the opening round will receive $27,500, those who make the second round will earn $41,800, and those who reach the third round are guaranteed $57,200. Players who qualify for the singles main draw are in line for a $110,000 payday, with the chance for much more with further progress at Flushing Meadows.
China's Zhang hit a career-high WTA singles ranking of No. 22 in 2023 and has competed in the US Open singles main draw 11 previous times, reaching the fourth round in 2022. A three-time WTA singles champion, she also reached the Australian Open quarters in 2016 and the Wimbledon quarters in 2019.
The 36-year-old is a two-time Grand Slam titlist in doubles, having won the 2019 Aussie Open and 2021 US Open with Sam Stosur. Last year in New York, she returned to the women's doubles final with Kristina Mladenovic.
Evans is bidding for his ninth US Open main-draw appearance and his seventh in a row. The Briton owns a 16-8 record in New York and has never lost in the first round; he advanced to the last 16 in 2021 and reached the third round on six additional occasions. No stranger to success on U.S. soil, Evans won his second ATP Tour title in Washington in 2023 and reached the Delray Beach final in 2019.
Last summer, the 35-year-old made further headlines in New York by beating Karen Khachanov in the longest match in US Open history at five hours, 35 minutes. He backed up that marathon victory with a straight-sets win against Mariano Navone before running out of gas against Alex de Minaur in the third round.
Basilashvili hopes to return to the US Open main draw for the first time since 2022. A finalist in Indian Wells in 2021 (l. to Cameron Norrie), the Georgian's best New York result was a fourth-round run in 2018—a result that helped him reach a career-high ATP ranking of No. 16 the following year.
Garin reached the US Open second round for four consecutive years from 2019-22 but lost in the first round of qualifying each of the past two years. A Wimbledon quarterfinalist in 2022, the 29-year-old Chilean was ranked a career-high world No. 17 in 2021.
In addition to these international stars, a host of American talents also dot the qualifying draws. The 21 home hopes on the women's side are: No. 7 seed Katie Volynets, No. 10 seed Bernarda Pera, No. 22 seed Varvara Lepchenko, Louisa Chirico, Madison Brengle, Kayla Day, Amelia Honer, Whitney Osuigwe, Sachia Vickery, Elizabeth Mandlik, Lauren Davis, Hina Inoue, Claire Liu, and wild cards Akasha Urhobo, Fiona Crawley, Mary Stoiana, Maya Iyengar, Alexis Nguyen, Monika Ekstrand, Ayana Akli, and Kristina Penickova.
Christopher Eubanks, who reached the quarterfinals at both Wimbledon and Miami in 2023, is among 15 American men in the qualifying draw. The former world No. 29 is joined by: No. 22 seed Zachary Svajda, No. 27 seed Colton Smith, Mitchell Krueger, Murphy Cassone, Patrick Kypson, and wild cards Jack Satterfield, Michael Zheng, Martin Damm, Jack Kennedy, Benjamin Willwerth, Garrett Johns, Tyler Zink, Patrick Maloney, and Andres Martin.
