Venus Williams is continuing her comeback in New York. Adding even more star power to an already stellar lineup, she and fellow American Reilly Opelka are one of the eight wild card entries in this year’s reimagined US Open Mixed Doubles Championship presented by Vital Proteins.
After more than a year hiatus from tennis, 45-year-old Williams made her 2025 debut at the DC Open in July—where she won both a doubles and singles match, becoming the oldest player to win a WTA Tour singles match in more than 21 years. The seven-time Grand Slam singles champion was also recently awarded a wild card for the upcoming Cincinnati Open.
It’s no secret that Williams is a comfortable doubles player. Just let her record show: She’s won three Olympic gold medals in doubles with her sister Serena, as well as 14 Grand Slam doubles titles together. Williams also holds two mixed doubles titles, both in 1998 with partner Max Mirny at Wimbledon and the US Open. This will be her first time competing in a Grand Slam with Opelka.
Previously ranked in the Top 20, Opelka currently sits at No. 74 on the ATP Tour men's singles rankings, after missing nearly two full seasons due to injuries. The 27-year-old is a large presence in the circuit, literally; at 6-foot-11, Opelka’s tied for the tour's tallest-ever player, which might help explain his remarkably powerful serve.
While Williams and Opelka are good friends off the court, sharing common interests of art and fashion, the US Open Mixed Doubles Championship will be their first time teaming up on court. They’re joined by several other stars in the field, including defending US Open Mixed Doubles Champions Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori and current women’s doubles world No. 1 Taylor Townsend.
Tickets for the mixed doubles action in Arthur Ashe Stadium are available via Ticketmaster and USOpen.org. Learn more about the event at the US Open Mixed Doubles Championship homepage—spectacular awaits!
