World No. 1s Jannik Sinner, recent Wimbledon champion, and Aryna Sabalenka, runner-up at this year’s Australian Open and Roland Garros, lead their respective fields and look to defend their US Open singles titles. They’re followed by 2023 US Open champion Coco Gauff and 2022 US Open titlist Carlos Alcaraz—who are both ranked world No. 2 as defending Roland Garros champions.
As the 2024 US Open champ, Sinner will be looking to defend his title in Arthur Ashe Stadium. With Sinner and Alcaraz claiming the other three Grand Slams trophies this year, many are looking to see if the “New Two” will sweep their 2025 title runs, and if Alcaraz will even out their year-to-date tally and avenge his Wimbledon loss.
Both of this year’s other women’s Grand Slam champions are also in the mix, including No. 3 Iga Swiatek, who enters the tournament with six major titles to her name, including her most recent Wimbledon singles championship; and reigning Australian Open champion Madison Keys, who reached the US Open final in 2017.
The United States leads all nations with 30 players (16 women and 14 men) earning direct entry into the tournament. Along with No. 8 Keys, the American women are led by No. 2 Gauff, No. 4 Jessica Pegula and No. 7 Amanda Anisimova—who’s debuting in the Top 10 after her Wimbledon runner-up finish.
Meanwhile, the American men in the field include Top 10 players Taylor Fritz and Ben Shelton. Fritz just made his furthest run at Wimbledon, where he narrowly lost in the semifinals to Alcaraz. His only career Grand Slam final appearance was at the 2024 US Open. Perhaps this is his year to walk away with a different outcome and a maiden major crown.
Nine total players are using special or protected rankings to enter in the main draw, including No. 14 Petra Kvitova, No. 21 Nick Kyrgios and No. 37 Sorana Cirstea.
Both the men's and women's entries were based on the July 14 rankings. The women's cutoff was No. 99, while the men's cutoff was No. 101.
The direct entries will be joined by 16 wild cards (eight in each singles draw) and 32 qualifiers (16 men and 16 women), who will look to earn their spot during the US Open Qualifying Tournament played during US Open Fan Week, beginning on Monday, Aug. 18. This year’s Fan Week will also include a reimagined Mixed Doubles Championship Tournament on Tuesday, Aug. 19 and Wednesday, Aug. 20.
The 2025 US Open Singles Main Draw runs Sunday, Aug. 24, to Sunday, Sept. 7, at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y. Spectacular awaits!
