Mirra Andreeva and Daniil Medvedev both entered Wimbledon as Top 10 singles seeds, and Andreeva lived up to that billing by securing a spot in the quarterfinals. Later this year, the two will join forces during the first week of the 2025 US Open to compete in the reimagined Mixed Doubles Championship.
Mixed doubles isn’t a go-to event for either competitor, but they’ve paired up previously for exhibition events, before ultimately entering in mixed doubles at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. While the duo didn’t make it past the opening round, they’re looking for a redemption arc in Flushing Meadows.
“It may not have worked out at the Olympics, but hopefully it will at the US Open,” Andreeva told an international publication. “We’ve already agreed to play there together. We can develop a good tandem.”
At 18 years old, Andreeva became the youngest player to reach the women’s singles quarterfinals at Wimbledon since Nicole Vaidisova in 2007. The world No. 7 is also the first teenager to reach the final eight since Victoria Azarenka and Sabine Lisicki in 2009.
Andreeva boasts 10 wins over Top 10 players, including a victory over No.1 Aryna Sabalenka in the 2025 Indian Wells final. Just a couple of weeks later, she left the Miami Open with her first doubles title. Her momentum continued at Roland Garros, where she reached the women’s singles quarterfinals.
Meanwhile, her veteran partner has many accolades to his name. A former world No. 1 and 2021 US Open champion, Medvedev has reached six Grand Slam finals. However, he’s had a bit of a rocky season so far. His loss in the first round of Wimbledon stunned fans, especially considering his final run in Halle just a couple weeks ago, as well as his semifinal showings at Wimbledon the past two years.
“For the moment, I'm not that worried,” Medvedev said in a press conference after his Wimbledon loss.
Instead, he’s focusing on fine-tuning his performance for future matches—including what he hopes will be four alongside Andreeva in New York.
