Top 10 players Jack Draper and Zheng Qinwen are looking to build on their singles success at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center by adding their names to the entry list for the 2025 US Open Mixed Doubles Championship, reimagined to encourage the world’s top singles talent to play.
Zheng and Draper, the 2024 Olympic gold medalist and a 2024 US Open semifinalist, respectively, don’t frequent doubles draws. Zheng has only played in tour-level doubles draws three times, and Draper has a 6-4 record in doubles, with his best result coming last year in Montreal when he made a quarterfinal run with Jannik Sinner. Both of their Grand Slam doubles appearances have been at Wimbledon—Zheng played with Wang Xiyu in 2022, while Draper played with Paul Zubb in 2019.
They said hi to each other for the first time at Indian Wells this year, and Draper went on to win his first Masters 1000 title—so that bodes well for the team. The Brit is excited about the prospect of playing with such a strong player for the chance to win a major title, and was the one who reached out through their agency.
“I think it's a good format for the players to get prepared for the US Open, having a shot at playing with another top player,” Draper said. “I have seen her around. Obviously a great player herself and has a really good game. I think it will be fun to get out there and play with her and see how we get on.”
When asked about some of her partner’s strengths on the court, Zheng said that Draper’s height will be a great advantage for the team.
“He’s very tall so obviously [he has] a good serve,” she said. “And with a lefty we’ve got a lot of advantages with the forehand spin to the player’s backhand, so I think maybe he’s going to stay in that ad side if he wants.”
