The Philadephia Eagles' blowout Super Bowl victory felt a lot like the dominant wins Serena Williams used to rack up at the US Open—a never-in-doubt rout. So it was fitting that the American tennis legend made a surprise appearance during the Super Bowl LIX halftime show.
Williams made a brief cameo in support of Kendrick Lamar as the rapper performed his hit song, "Not Like Us," shining a light on the pair's shared roots in Compton, Calif.
Williams' moves on stage were beamed around the world, with Coco Gauff leading the applause on social media.
Even before her halftime appearance, Serena added to the Super Bowl buzz by sharing her support for Taylor Swift, who was the subject of boos from Eagles fans in the stadium. Swift, who grew up near Philadephia, was in New Orleans to cheer on her boyfriend, Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs.
Swift and Kelce attended the 2024 US Open together when they took in the men's singles final. Might we see Swift and Serena share a suite at the 2025 US Open?
