Two months after squaring off to decide the 2024 Laver Cup in Berlin, Carlos Alcaraz and Taylor Fritz were announced Monday as the first players confirmed for the 2025 Laver Cup in San Francisco.
At the 2024 event, Alcaraz clinched victory for Team Europe by edging Fritz in a winner-takes-all 12th match of the competition. They will return to the Laver Cup stage at the Chase Center in San Francisco, with the event's eighth edition scheduled for Sept. 19-21, 2025.
“It was great being part of Team Europe at the Laver Cup in Berlin this year,” said Alcaraz, who contributed a record eight points with three victories. “To have all the players I’m used to fighting against together, on the bench supporting me, sharing the same goal—to lift the trophy—is unique. I found it really motivating. I loved the Laver Cup energy, the environment, the atmosphere, and I can’t wait to be part of it again in San Francisco.”
While Alcaraz made his Laver Cup debut in Berlin, Fritz was competing in the event for the fourth time. A cornerstone of Team World, Fritz will return for his fifth time in his native California.
“I am pumped to represent Team World once again,” said Fritz. “The atmosphere, camaraderie, team chemistry and excitement of the Laver Cup is unlike any other tournament. I’m sure the energy will be amazing and hopefully the home fans will come out in force to support us in San Francisco. We really want the Laver Cup back!”
The 2025 Laver Cup will also mark the debuts of Team World captain Andre Agassi and Team Europe captain Yannick Noah, who have taken the reins from John McEnroe and Bjorn Borg, respectively.
