The last five US Open women's singles champions are accounted for on the WTA's ballot for season-ending awards in 2024, which honors standout performances for the whole season.
Aryna Sabalenka, who defeated Jessica Pegula in this year's final in Queens, leads the Player of the Year shortlist as the year-end world No. 1, with 2023 and 2022 Open champs Coco Gauff and Iga Swiatek joining her.
Rounding out the list for the tour's top honor are Italy's Jasmine Paolini, who propeled herself from outside the Top 30 to a year-end finish of world No. 4 and made two major finals at Roland Garros and Wimbledon this year, and Olympic gold medalist Zheng Qinwen, who was the runner-up at the Australian Open and a quarterfinalist in New York this year.
But they're not the only familiar faces to US Open fans who made the year-end lists, which also include awards for Doubles Team of the Year, Comeback Player of the Year, Newcomer of the Year, and Most Improved Player of the Year.
Up for Doubles Team of the Year are Lyudmyla Kichenok and Jelena Ostapenko, who won their first Grand Slam trophy as a team at this year's US Open, and last year's queens of Queens Gabriela Dabrowski and Erin Routliffe, who ran the table to win the season-ending WTA Finals. Two-time US Open champion, meanwhile, Naomi Osaka headlines the Comeback Player of the Year shortlist for her performance in her return from maternity leave.
Osaka is joined by 2021 US Open winner Emma Raducanu and two-time semifinalist Karolina Muchova, each of whom made the second week at a Grand Slam this year after recent surgeries. Roundind out the notable selections is American Emma Navarro, who dethroned Gauff on her way to her first career Grand Slam semifinal in New York this year and tops the list for Most Improved Player of the Year.
Members of the international tennis media will vote on the season's award winners, which will be announced in the coming weeks.
