The most decorated female swimmer in the world has a fitting dream doubles partner.
On a visit to the 2024 US Open on Tuesday, Katie Ledecky said that she'd love to team up with Ben Shelton, who played college tennis for the University of Florida Gators, where Ledecky trains, on the tennis court.
Ledecky, who added four more medals to her total career haul at the recently-concluded Paris Olympics, sat in Arthur Ashe Stadium for the Day 9 morning session which saw Americans Emma Navarro and Taylor Fritz in action, two of her Team USA peers in Paris.
The 27-year-old, in fact, crossed paths more than once with the U.S. Olympic tennis team while staying in the Olympic Village, including a viral meetup with Navarro, Coco Gauff, Jessica Pegula and Desirae Krawczyk in a Parisian elevator.
"It's such an honor to represent Team USA whever you are, and I know that the U.S. tennis players had a great time in Paris," Ledecky said. "It's always fun to have that Team USA camaraderie, and that extends beyond the Olympics as well."
"I'm definitely cheering them on," Ledecky continued. "It's great to watch Team USA athletes perform, whether it's at the US Open, the Olympics or anywhere else."
With Ledecky watching on, Navarro defeated Paula Badosa 6-2, 7-5 in the opening day-session match to book a place in her first career Grand Slam semifinal.
