The 2024 US Open has smashed attendance records, even before the first ball of main draw. During the first seven-day US Open Fan Week, 216,029 fans entered the gates of the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, a 37% increase over 2023.
Over the years, the week of free tennis and entertainment on the grounds has grown from the US Open Qualifying Tournament into a festival of fun for everyone.
Monday night's Legends of the Open was an opportunity for fans to see the sport's greats up close, with Two-time Grand Slam singles champion Garbine Muguruza and nine-time doubles Grand Slam winner Bethanie Mattek-Sands were joined by former Top 10 players James Blake and Tommy Haas for a fun-filled hit-and-giggle, which consisted of women's singles, mixed doubles and men's singles on the Open's biggest show court.
The first Mixed Madness was another highlight of the week, with four teams squaring off to win $250,000 and bragging rights. Paula Badosa and Stefanos Tsitsipas lifted the trophy, but all the players had a great time on the court, as did the fans in the stands.
Wednesday night's Stars of the Open helped raise money for the USTA Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the USTA, as sixteen of the best tennis players—past and present—took the court in Ashe Stadium for an evening of laughter under the lights as they played 10-point tiebreaks, and the stars were mic’d up, putting their personalities on display along with their world-class tennis skills.
Proceeds from Flavors of the Open on Thursday night will also benefit the USTA Foundation, where attendees had the chance to sample some of the delectable dishes and drinks from the bevy of restaurants and concessions available to fans throughout the tournament. Celebrity chefs such as Alex Pat LaFrieda, Alex Guarnaschelli, Josh Capon, Masaharu Morimoto, Kwame Onwuachi, Ed Brown, Simon Kim and David Burke were also in attendance, showing off their cooking expertise along with their tennis skills.
Friday night played host to the inagural US Open Block Party, opened by DJ Millie and DJ D-Nice, as fans with free tickets danced the night away in the Fountain Plaza after a chock-full Media Day.
Saturday's Arthur Ashe Kids' Day set an all-time attendance record of 47,875, featuring fun tennis activities, and family-friendly entertainment, headlined by a show from sports-comedy group Dude Perfect.
Throughout the week, 15,000 unique Marvel comic books about the power of tennis and 10,000 Wilson youth tennis racquets were given away for free to fans. Additionally, over two million devices accessed USOpen.org and the US Open app during Fan Week, while Tennis Storm, the Minigame Box PVP Fortnite game created exclusively for the US Open, saw 3.5 Million players and over 430,000 matches played. Fan Access Pass, which gave those who signed up access to VIP seats and exclusive experience, reached nearly 205,000 registrations and saw upwards of 233,000 total on-site engagements during Fan Week.
The US Open main draw begins on Monday and runs through Sunday, Sept. 8.
