It gets hot during the late-summer days at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, and fans and players alike need to stay hydrated to keep their energy levels high during the 2024 US Open.
Luckily for some visitors during US Open Fan Week, Frances Tiafoe was ready with ice-cold Evian water—but dressed in an Evian T-shirt, a bucket hat and sunglasses, he tried to go incognito as he joined the throngs out on the grounds.
As is characteristic of “Big Foe,” his gregarious personality shone just as brightly as his smile while he sold bottles of water (and gave some out for free).
“You want some Evian?” the Cincinnati finalist asked a young child who came up to the evian booth with her family. She said it was her birthday, and Tiafoe jumped into action.
“Today’s your birthday? This drink’s on me. You gotta hydrate when you’re six. Evian’s got you.”
While he tried to tell the cart’s customers that he was not, in fact, the 2022 US Open semifinalist, some people saw through it.
“I know you’re not who you say you are, but I’m going to take a selfie,” one woman said, with Tiafoe responding that she was “not going to be happy about this photo when you get home.”
Whether he was meeting fans, fooling unsuspecting visitors or just handing out water, Tiafoe radiated good vibes.
“I’ve never felt so good selling water before, man. Y’all are making me feel so special.”
