After reaching the doubles final at the ATP Masters 1000 event in Cincinnati, the team of Alex Michelsen and Mackenzie McDonald were awarded a wild card into the doubles draw of the 2024 US Open, along with 13 other all-American duos.
In Cincinnati, Michelsen and McDonald defeated two seeded teams, including the No. 3 seeds and three-time defending US Open champions Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury, and No. 1 seeds Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos to reach the final. The pair also reached the quarterfinals in Newport.
Robin Montgomery and Clervie Ngounoue received a wild card into the women’s doubles draw, a year after they took their wild card and ran with it all the way to the third round of the 2023 US Open. This year, they reached the semifinals of the USTA Pro Circuit W75 event in Rome, Ga and the quarterfinals of the W75 in Vero Beach, Fla.
As is tradition, the winners of the Division I NCAA individual championship, if American, get a US Open wild card. This year, Robert Cash and JJ Tracy representing the Ohio State University earned the title, and the ticket into their home Slam that comes with it. The pair posted a 20-3 record this past season, were ranked in the Top 5 throughout the season, and helped the Buckeyes to the NCAA team semifinals.
Two more wild cards were awarded to the champions of the USTA Boys’ and Girls’ 18s National Championships. Nikita Filin and Alexander Razeghi won the boys’ title in Kalamazoo, Mich., while Tyra Caterina Grant and Iva Jovic lifted the girls’ trophy. Grant and Jovic have been finalists at the three Grand Slams this year, winning in Australia and at Wimbledon, and are also the two-time reigning Orange Bowl champions.
The remaining four wild cards into the men’s doubles draw went to Tristan Boyer and Emilio Nava, Christian Harrison and Vasil Kirkov, Mitchell Krueger and Reese Stalder, and Ryan Seggerman and Patrik Trhac.
On the women’s side, the other teams who received wild cards are Jessie Aney and Jessica Failla, Hailey Baptiste and Whitney Osuigwe, Carmen Corley and Ivana Corley, McCartney Kessler and Sabrina Santamaria, and Anna Rogers and Alana Smith.
