Four future stars were rewarded for their sporting behavior at the 2023 US Open with the 2023 US Open Junior Sportsmanship Award.
One boy and one girl from the able-bodied and wheelchair divisions were each presented with the award for exemplifying good sportsmanship on and off the court. The Junior Sportsmanship Award was first introduced at the 2022 US Open.
Italians Federico Cina and Francesco Felici were the respective winners in the boys' divisions, while Americans Katherine Hui and Maylee Phelps won the girls' awards.
Hui won the girls’ singles title as an unseeded wild card, while Cina reached the semifinals in the boys’ singles draw. Both Felici and Phelps lost in the junior wheelchair singles finals, while Phelps won the girls' doubles title with partner Ksenia Chasteau.
The award is designed to raise awareness for the USTA’s emphasis on sportsmanship and is selected by a committee including the tournament director and other tournament staff.
