Final: Novak Djokovic vs. Daniil Medvedev
Arthur Ashe Stadium — 4 P.M. Start
- For the second time in the last three years, Djokovic and Medvedev will play in the men's singles final at the US Open. Medvedev was a straight-sets winner in 2021, denying Djokovic the calendar-year Grand Slam, and their rematch in this year's championship is their third meeting this year. Djokovic was a winner in Adelaide, while Medvedev was a winner in Dubai.
- Djokovic is in pursuit of a record-tying 24th Grand Slam singles title, as he seeks to match Australia's Margaret Court in all-time majors won. Djokovic also seeks to win three Grand Slam events in the same season for the fourth time (2011, 2015, 2021), after triumphing at the Australian Open and Roland Garros this year. Djokovic is contesting his 36th Grand Slam singles final all-time, which is an all-time record.
- After dethroning defending champion Carlos Alcaraz in the semifinals, Medvedev is attempting to become the first player to beat the No. 1 and 2 seeds during a US Open title run in nearly 50 years. In 1975, No. 3 Manuel Orantes beat No. 2 Guillermo Vilas in the semifinals and No. 1 Jimmy Connors in the final. Medvedev is also looking to beat Djokovic twice in a row on hard courts for the first time.
- The No. 3 seed says he'll have to be the "best-ever" version of himself to pull off the upset again. "Novak, when he loses, he's never the same after," Medvedev said after beating Alcaraz. "So he's different. It's just a different mentality. That's why he has 23 Grand Slams, whatever, Masters 1000s, weeks at No. 1. So I have to use it knowing that he's going to be 10 times better than he was that day. And I have to be, if I want to still beat him, 10 times better than I was that day. That's what I'm going to try to do."
- The first set might be crucial in determining the winner. All-time at the US Open, Djokovic is 72-1 when winning the first set, with his only loss to Stan Wawrinka in the 2016 final. Meanwhile, Medvedev is 47-1 this season when a set ahead, with his only loss coming on grass to Adrian Mannarino in June.
