Top-ranked wheelchair player Diede de Groot will arrive at the US Open next month in pursuit of her sixth straight title at the US Open Wheelchair Championships presented by Deloitte, and with it, a third straight calendar-year Grand Slam.
A star-studded field will look to stop her. The entry lists for the 2023 US Open Wheelchair Championsips presented by Deloitte have been announced for men's, women's and quad singles. The event will take place from Tuesday, Sept. 5, to Sunday, Sept. 10, during the second week of main-draw play at the 2023 US Open.
De Groot's home nation, the Netherlands, leads all nations with nine players earning direct entry to the tournament, while Japan is second with eight players. The world No. 1 will have three compatriots in the women's event: her fellow Top 10 players Jiske Griffioen, Aniek van Koot and Lizzy de Greef; a pair, world No. 1 and No. 2 Niels Vink and Sam Schroder, lead the quad field, which is expanding to 16 players for the first time this year.
Meanwhile, de Groot's chief rival is world No. 2 Yui Kamiji of Japan, whose compatriot Tokito Oda, just 17, has won Roland Garros and Wimbledon this year—the youngest player to ever win a wheelchair Grand Slam title. The teenager comes to New York as the world No. 1 in the men's division, with three-time US Open singles champion Alfie Hewett behind him as the world No. 2.
