2011 US Open singles champion Samantha Stosur announced on social media on Wednesday that next month's Australian Open will be the final singles tournament of her career.
"I’m so excited and very grateful to play in my 20th [Australian Open] in a couple of weeks time. A huge thank you to Tennis Australia for giving me this opportunity to finish my singles career at my home Grand Slam," Stosur wrote in an Instagram post.
"It really means a lot to me to be able to finish in front of my family, friends and Aussie fans who have stuck by me through thick and thin. I’m sure it’s going to be a mix of emotions but I wouldn’t want it any other way as I always thought I’d finish playing in Australia."
Stosur added the hashtag #onelasttime to the post, and also confirmed that she'll play doubles through the end of the season.
Now ranked world No. 382 in singles, Stosur received a wild card for her 20th career main draw at Melbourne Park, a tournament she first played as a 17-year-old in 2002. Though she's only won two singles matches in the past two years, Stosur has remained a force in doubles, where she's currently ranked world No. 16.
She and Zhang Shuai won the US Open last summer—Stosur's fourth Grand Slam title in women's doubles—and she also reached the mixed doubles final with compatriot Matthew Ebden at the 2021 Australian Open.
Stosur, now 37, peaked at a career-high singles ranking of world No. 4 in February of 2011, and went on to win her first Grand Slam singles title in New York later that year by beating Serena Williams in the final. The Aussie also reached the women's singles final at the 2010 French Open.
