Already assured of a place in the tennis history books after winning the 2021 US Open, pieces of Daniil Medvedev and Emma Raducanu's championship runs will live on in perpetuity at the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, R.I.
Medvedev donated the racquet he used in his championship victory over Novak Djokovic while Raducanu contribued one of the navy-and-red Nike match outfits she wore during the fortnight to the Hall of Fame museum. Now on display as part of Newport's permanent collection, the pieces will also be photographed for use in future digital exhibits and educational content.
“The International Tennis Hall of Fame preserves tennis history so that future generations can learn from and be inspired by the sport’s most notable moments and remarkable people. Emma and Daniil certainly showed that they are those remarkable people during their spectacular US Open title runs," said Stan Smith, ITHF President.
"We are grateful to Emma and Daniil for recognizing the importance of the Hall of Fame’s mission to preserve tennis history for future generations and for providing this special piece of tennis history to the museum."
Denying Djokovic the opportunity to capture the Grand Slam with his straight-sets victory in the final, Medvedev became the third Russian man to win a major.
In the achievement, he joins Marat Safin and Yevgeny Kafelnikov, both of whom are Hall of Famers.
Winning 20 consecutive sets in 10 matches to capture the US Open women's singles title, 18-year-old Raducanu became the first qualifier to win a Grand Slam title and the first British woman to win a major since Virginia Wade in 1977.
Ranked world No. 150 prior to the US Open, Raducanu's victory catapulted her into the Top 30 in the rankings.
