Now that the trophies have been raised and the Grand Slam won at the 2021 US Open in Flushing Meadows, USOpen.org is tallying up the numbers.
1: Number of qualifiers that have won a Grand Slam singles title in tennis historyć¼Emma Raducanu.
2: Number of players that have won a US Open title on their main draw debut. Raducanu joins 2019 champion Bianca Andreescu on the list. The 18-year-old Brit was playing in her second Grand Slam main draw, and also broke the record for least majors played before winning a major singles title. The previous record, held by Monica Seles and Andreescu, was four.
3: Daniil Medvedev wins his maiden Grand Slam title by defeating Novak Djokovic in three sets in his third career Grand Slam final. The Russian avoids joining Andre Agassi, Goran Ivanisevic, Ivan Lendl, Andy Murray, and Dominic Thiem on the list of men that have lost their first three Grand Slam finals in the Open era.
4: Consecutive three-set victories that Leylah Fernandez won to reach the final. Three of them came against Top 5 opponents. The Canadian is the youngest player to earn three Top 5 victories at a Grand Slam since 17-year-old Serena Williams achieved the feat at the 1999 US Open (also the year of the last all-teenage final at a Slam).
5: Number of titles in Diede De Groot’s Golden Slam. The Dutchwoman became the first tennis player to win a Golden Slam since Steffi Graf in 1988 when she defeated Yui Kamiji in the women’s wheelchair singles final. Hours later she was joined by Dylan Alcott of Australia, who captured the Golden Slam in wheelchair quad singles.
6: Number of Grand Slam appearances made by Canada’s Fernandez prior to this year’s US Open. She was 4-6 at the Slams prior to reeling off six victories to reach the final.
7: American Desirae Krawczyk became the seventh player to win three mixed doubles titles in a single Grand Slam season. She took the mixed doubles title with Joe Salisbury, and became the first player to win three consecutive mixed doubles titles since Mahesh Bhupathi, from 2005 Wimbledon to 2006 Australian Open.
8: Raducanu’s appearance in the final marked the 8th time a British woman had played a Grand Slam final, and she became the first British women’s singles Grand Slam champion since Virginia Wade in 1977.
9: Number of all-teen Grand Slam finals in Open era history. There were eight between 1988 and 1999, and the ninth was played on Saturday, when Raducanu defeated Fernandez for the title.
10: Number of comebacks from two sets to love down at the 2021 US Open, which ties form the most in tournament history (also 1974 and 2012).
11: Length of the current winning streak of Samantha Stosur and Shuai Zhang, who defeated Coco Gauff and Caty McNally for the women’s doubles title on Saturday.
20-0: Red-hot Raducanu did not drop a single set through qualifying, winning all 20 that she played.
23: Raducanu rises from 150 to 23 in the rankings thanks to her US Open title.
27: Djokovic’s Grand Slam winning streak is stopped at 27 in the US Open final.
