Welcome to this week's edition of "Hot Shots," a USOpen.org-curated look at what you may have missed on social media over the past few days. As the on-court action continued on the European clay this week in Barcelona, Belgrade, Istanbul and Stuttgart, the biggest social media story of the week came away from the courts.
As of this week, two-time US Open quarterfinalist Carla Suarez Navarro is cancer-free.
The former world No. 6 has spent the past seven months undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatment in Barcelona, after she announced a diagnosis of Hodgkin's lymphoma in September.
The 32-year-old announced the good news on her social media accounts on Thursday.
Her announcement was quickly met with messages of support from the WTA family of players, both past and present.
The Spaniard previously intended for 2020 to be her final season on tour, but has decided to extend her career in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic and her diagnosis. According to the WTA, the intends to play in next month's French Open.
Suarez Navarro has reached the quarterfinals seven times at Grand Slams, including in New York in 2013 and 2018 where she was betean by eventual champion Serena Williams and Madison Keys, respectively.
