Maria Sharapova announced her retirement from tennis on Wednesday. The 32-year-old Russian won five Grand Slam women's singles trophies among her 36 career titles, and she has earned more than $38 million in prize money since turning pro in 2001. Here's a closer look at her performances in New York City.
0: The number of games lost against American wild card Beatrice Capra in the third round of the 2010 US Open. It is one of six 6-0, 6-0 Sharapova wins at majors, but her only one in New York.
3: Only three Russian players, and two Russian women, have ever won a US Open singles trophy. Marat Safin (2000) and Svetlana Kuznetsova (2004) join Sharapova, who won the title in 2006.
5-4: Sharapova ends her career with a winning record against Top-10 players at Flushing Meadows. Her wins came against world No. 1 Amelie Mauresmo and No. 2 seed Justin Henin in 2006; world No. 2 Simona Halep in 2017; No. 9 Nadia Petrova in 2005; and No. 10 Jelena Ostapenko in 2018.
10: Sharapova is one of 10 women to have completed the career Grand Slam. In addition to the 2006 US Open, Sharapova also won Wimbledon in 2004, the Australian Open in 2008 and the French Open in both 2012 and 2014.
14-1: Sharapova dropped just one set in seven matches in winning the 2006 US Open. Only 12 women have gone a perfect 14-0, most recently when Serena Williams won the 2014 title. The only set Sharapova dropped in 2006 was to world No. 1 and top seed Mauresmo in the semifinals, a match she won, 6-0, 4-6, 6-0.

It came after a lengthy day session that saw Melanie Oudin upset Elena Dementieva, 5-7, 6-4, 6-3, Jelena Jankovic beat Yaroslava Shvedova, 6-3, 6-7, 7-6, and James Blake outlast Olivier Rochus, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6, 6-3.
2003: Sharapova's first-ever match at the US Open came on Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2003. Her first-round contest against Virginia Ruano Pascual was the third match on inside Louis Armstrong Stadium. Sharapova hit five aces and five double faults, broke Ruano Pascual five times and saved the only two break points she faced in completing a 73-minute victory, 6-1, 6-1.
