Women's Final: No. 8 Serena Williams (USA) vs. No. 15 Bianca Andreescu (CAN)
4 p.m. ET, in Arthur Ashe Stadium
• The 2019 US Open women's singles final is an all-North American affair, and history will be made, either way. Of course, most of the history sides with Serena Williams, who is currently tied with Hall of Famer Chris Evert for the all-time records for most US Open singles titles (6) and most US Open match victories (101). But this match is bigger than just US Open history. If Williams wins Saturday night, she will tie Margaret Court's all-time record with 24 Grand Slam singles titles.
• Andreescu, on the other hand, has yet to win a single Grand Slam title. Then again, this is only the fourth main-draw Grand Slam appearance for the 19-year-old. It's her first-ever main draw in Flushing Meadows, and a win here would make her the first woman ever to win the singles title in her US Open debut.
• Williams was 16 when she made her US Open debut in 1998, making it to the third round that year. One year later, Williams won her first Grand Slam title when she defeated No. 1 Martina Hingis in Flushing Meadows. It was the first of her 23 (and counting) major titles, and the first of what is now 33 appearances in a Grand Slam singles final.
• Andreescu can boast that she has never lost to Williams, though their only meeting wasn't a completed match. They met for the first time just last month, in the final of the Rogers Cup in Toronto. Andreescu was leading in the first set, 3-1, when Williams retired with back spasms.
• The Rogers Cup was Andreescu’s first tournament since the French Open (she was nursing a shoulder injury), but that was enough to earn her the honor of Breakout Performer on the women's side in the US Open Series. She received that award just before the US Open fortnight began.
• Battle of the ages? Williams won her first US Open singles title nine months before Andreescu was born.
