Saturday saw the crowning of a new Grand Slam champ: Canada's Bianca Andreescu wrote herself into the history books with a steely straight-set victory over six-time champion Serena Williams, to secure her first major trophy in only her fourth Slam appearance.
In mixed doubles, Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Jamie Murray successfully defended their crown, becoming the first team to win back-to-back mixed doubles titles in New York since 1982.

2019 Women's Champion: Bianca Andreescu stunned Serena Williams—and the packed crowd inside Arthur Ashe Stadium—with a 6-3, 7-5 upset of Serena Williams in the women's singles final. Andreescu becomes the first Canadian to win a Slam singles title in the Open era.
Williams was chasing history at the US Open, trying to become the match-wins leader and the player with the most Open-era singles titles in Flushing Meadows (she is tied with Chris Evert for both, at 101 and six, respectively); and chasing that elusive 24th Slam singles title.
Mixed Doubles: Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Jamie Murray claimed their second consecutive mixed doubles US Open title, defeating No. 1 seeds Hao-Ching Chan and Michael Venus, 6-2, 6-3. This was the third straight US Open title for Murray, who partnered with Martina Hingis to win the 2017 title. For American Mattek-Sands, the title was also a staggering achievement, after she spent half of 2019 sidelined, recovering from knee surgery.
