If Angelique Kerber and Stan Wawrinka are to repeat as US Open champions in 2017, they will follow a familiar path.
The US Open has unveiled its schedule for 2017, and it will once again feature a 14-day tournament punctuated by the women’s singles final on Saturday afternoon and the men’s singles final on Sunday afternoon.
The 2017 US Open begins Monday, Aug. 28, and wraps up Sunday, Sept. 10.

Each round of this year's Flushing fortnight will be played out over two days. That format will proceed through the women’s semifinals, scheduled for Thursday evening, Sept. 7, and the men’s semifinals, set for the afternoon of Friday, Sept. 8, allowing for a day of rest between the semifinal and final rounds for both the men and the women.
The women’s doubles final will be played on the second Sunday, Sept. 10, with the mixed doubles final or the men’s doubles final to be contested prior to the men’s semifinals on Friday, Sept. 8, and the women’s final on Saturday, Sept. 9. The precise schedule of which final will be played when has to be determined.
This will mark the third consecutive year that the US Open has been scheduled at its traditional 14 days, following a planned 15-day tournament in 2013 and 2014 and rain that forced an extra day each year from 2008 to 2012.
Rain cancellations officially became a thing of the past last year, with the unveiling of the retractable roof over Arthur Ashe Stadium. The roof was part of the ongoing transformation of the US Open grounds, which included expanded walkways throughout the campus and a new Grandstand court.
At the completion of the 2016 US Open, the old Grandstand and the adjacent Louis Armstrong Stadium were razed. The new Louis Armstrong Stadium, also slated to feature a retractable roof, is scheduled to be ready for the 2018 US Open. In its place for this year, a temporary stadium will be erected in what is now Parking Lot B near the East Gate.
