Former world No. 1 Ana Ivanovic announced her retirement on Wednesday, drawing to a close a 14-year career that saw her win 15 tour titles including the 2008 French Open. She also reached the final at the 2007 French Open and the 2008 Australian Open as well as the semifinals at Wimbledon in 2007.
Here’s a look back at some of the 29-year-old’s notable moments and achievements at the US Open:
- Ivanovic reached the round of 16 or better at the US Open on five occasions. Her best career showing in New York came in 2012, when she beat Elina Svitolina and Sloane Stephens before falling to eventual champion Serena Williams in the quarterfinals.
- She was the tournament’s No. 1 seed in 2008, becoming just the 15th woman in the Open era to hold that distinction. That year she was upset by French qualifier Julie Coin in the second round.
- In all, she was seeded at the Open 11 times, including No. 5 in 2007, No. 7 in 2015 and No. 8 in 2014.
- Her best US Open match came in 2013, when she lost a riveting, seesawing fourth-round contest to No. 2 seed and eventual finalist Victoria Azarenka, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.
- Her first US Open victory was in 2005, when the then-17-year-old defeated American Lindsay Lee-Waters, 7-6, 6-3.
- Her last US Open victory came in 2014, a 6-3, 6-0 victory over American Alison Riske.
