Just when it looked as if her game was coming together after a rough summer, Canada’s Eugenie Bouchard is withdrawing from both the women’s doubles and mixed doubles competition at the US Open.
Following yesterday’s matches (she played both singles and mixed doubles), Bouchard reportedly slipped and fell in the locker room and sustained a head injury. According to tournament director David Brewer, the severity of the injury was--and continues to be--assessed by the on-site medical personnel at the US Open.
The recommendation was that the world No. 21, who on Friday reached the fourth round in singles with a 7-6, 4-6, 6-3 win over Slovak Dominika Cibulkova, withdraw from today’s competitions. A determination about competing in the singles competition has not yet been made. She will continue with medical evaluation and treatment for the remainder of the day.
