The No. 149-ranked Petra Cetkovska stunned fourth seed Caroline Wozniacki in a second-round slugfest under the lights of Arthur Ashe Stadium Thursday night, saving four match points en route to the 6-4, 5-7, 7-6 upset. Here are a few things to know about the big-hitting Czech:
- This is Cetkovska's second straight victory over Wozniacki. She also took out the Dane in straight sets in the second round of Wimbledon in 2013. Cetkovska, a right-hander, improves to 2-2 in matches against the world No. 5.
- The 30-year-old Cetkovska, who turned pro in 2000, owns two WTA doubles titles, 23 ITF Pro Circuit singles titles and 25 ITF Pro Circuit doubles titles. She has been ranked as high as No. 25 in the world, in 2012.
- She missed seven months in late 2014 and early 2015 with a hip injury, returning to play this spring in Indian Wells. She used a protected ranking to enter the US Open main draw.
- The Projstejov native counts in-line skating and cinema among her off-court interests.
Cetkovska will square off with Italian veteran Flavia Pennetta in the third round, facing a fellow player in her 30s. Pennetta also plays some of her best tennis in Flushing Meadows, having reached the quarterfinals or better at the US Open on five occasions, including last year.
