Since the tournament has ended, Pulse is no longer active. Thank you for playing during the 2008 US Open.

Pulse provides fans with a live and truly interactive experience of the US Open, by giving users the opportunity to express their opinion, track players, the tournament, as well as improve their tennis knowledge, and best of all predict the outcome of each match point-by-point.

Working in collaboration with IBM and USA Network, Pulse connects tennis fans with the heart of the match. Information is "pushed" to the game in real time so that you'll never miss a second of the action. You can simply play as a guest, or log in so your score is stored for the entire tournament. Enter your predictions as the live action unfolds throughout the tournament. We hope you find Pulse fun and easy to play. If you have any questions or need some help, click on the "?" in each section on Pulse.

How to use Pulse:

Pulse breaks down into four main sections: Pulse Predictor, Pulse Pundit, Pulse Knowledge, and Pulse Commentator.

  • Pulse Predictor allows you to make live predictions on matches as they unfold. Each user starts every match with 1000 points. You score points depending on how well you are able to predict the following:

    • Game winner: Make your prediction on the end game score. You can select as many possible outcomes as you wish, but for every incorrect prediction, you lose 100 points. Score outcomes that are no longer possible are lined out.
    • Set winner: Predict which player you think is going to win the set. The number of points you can win is based on Pulse's prediction for how each player is performing. You stand to win more points if you select the player who Pulse thinks is less likely to win the set. You lose 200 points for every incorrect prediction. You can make one prediction per service game.
    • Match winner: Almost identical to Set winner except you are predicting the winner of the match. You can play Match winner once every service game, but for every incorrect prediction, you lose 500 points.

  • Pulse Pundit integrates the internet with USA Network to put your points of view on air in real time. Use Pulse Pundit to answer live questions about the current match. Answer fast and you'll add to the opinion poll that is broadcast, and see if the commentators agree with your choice. Whether it's, 'Who has the best backhand?', 'Is the match going to five sets?', or anything else - we want your opinion.

  • Pulse Knowledge gives you the opportunity to build up your tennis knowledge on a fun and accessible platform. Learn about all aspects of the game. Throughout the match you'll receive a range of match statistics, trivia, US Open Fun Facts, Hawk-Eye analysis and IBM information. Keep an eye on Pulse Knowledge and you will soon be a tennis expert.

  • Pulse Commentator puts you in the heart of the action. Throughout each match you'll get live text updates giving you a flavor for the atmosphere and action taking place at the 2008 US Open.
