On Aug. 30, 2008, the the match between Andy Roddick and Ernests Gulbis ran so long, both players aged one year. An affair that started the evening of Aug. 29 went deep into the night as Roddick turned away his young challenger, 3-6, 7-5, 6-2, 7-5.

The match ended at 1:34 a.m. on Aug. 30, which just happened to be Roddick’s 26th birthday and Gulbis’ 20th.

The eighth-seeded Roddick would go on to reach the quarterfinals at the 2008 US Open before losing to No. 3 Novak Djokovic. It marked the seventh time in eight years that the Nebraskan would advance to the quarterfinals or better. He returned to the round of 8 in 2011 before retiring at the 2012 US Open following a fourth-round defeat to Juan Martin del Potro.
