The electric atmosphere of 16 courts of tennis is the heartbeat of the US Open, but for those looking to add a little jazz – or a little rock, cello or samba, not to mention interactive games and family fun – to their trip to the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, a wide range of entertainment options can be found throughout the grounds.

Live music can be heard throughout the tournament at the South Plaza and President’s Gate, with performers ranging from a capella groups to classic rock bands. And many of them have used the experience of performing at the US Open as a springboard to launch their own national tours and secure record deals.

The American Express Fan Experience is a perfect option for families. The 20,000-square-foot interactive complex hosts interviews with top players on the Fan Court, autograph sessions at the WTA booth and a digital gaming tennis center that lets players of all abilities challenge their friends to a game of virtual tennis. Fans can also their swing analyzed by a pro and kids can even try out for the game for themselves with youth tennis sessions throughout the tournament.

US Open attendees also can see their Twitter and Facebook updates about the tournament appear on the 50-feet-by-8-feet social media wall, adjacent to Louis Armstrong Stadium. Fans can use the wall to check out social media commentary from fans and players and Instagram photos from fellow spectators as well as to stay up to date on trending tennis topics.

For true students of the game, the International Tennis Hall of Fame & Museum Gallery, located in the Chase Center, lets fans learn about the historic past and exciting future of the game. Classic photos, outfits worn by former champions and video exhibits provide a fun break and unique experience from the action around the grounds.

And for those with tickets to the Opening Night session, the Opening Night Ceremony features live performances from Grammy-winning artists that have included Aretha Franklin, Lenny Kravitz and Gloria Estefan. Each evening session throughout the tournament also offers patriotic performances from some of the most talented young singers in the country. Last year’s performer of the national anthem, 12-year-old Frenie Acoba, was featured on Broadway that year in the hit musical “Matilda.”

So whether you come for the tennis, for the atmosphere or for both, there is plenty to do, see and experience at the 2014 US Open.
